Job Summary:

This position is charged with the instruction of adult education courses through in class instruction. This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Adult Education and is responsible for the orientation of students, instruction and recruitment/follow up. The instructor will teach the GED and WAGE programs to students on-site and/or at approved off-site locations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Educates students according to program guidelines
  • Administrates the orientation process for new students to include the submission of required documents, an explanation of the program, and administrating the Test of Adult Basic Education as needed
  • Prepares and teaches personalized learning plans based on the entrance evaluation and individual goals
  • Maintains accurate documentation of classes, attendance, evaluations, and other related information.
  • Administers student assessments
  • Participates in program recruitment and retention activities
  • Attends required trainings, professional development, and meetings
  • Provides exceptional customer service to prospects, students, and community partners.
  • Represents the program in the community, identify resources, identify potential partners, and be an advocate for SouthArk Adult Education
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned

  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of pedagogy and adult learning theories
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the classroom
  • Fosters a climate of mutual respect in the classroom and with colleagues
  • Punctuality to begin and end class at the scheduled times
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Earned bachelor’s degree
  • Current Arkansas Department of Education Teacher Certificate
  • The successful candidate must obtain Adult Education endorsement within four years of hire date

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience teaching in an adult education program
  • Experience working with people in re-entry programs

Travel Requirements:

  • Instruction at off-campus approved facilities required
  • Occasional in-state travel required
