Job Summary:

The Clinical/Simulation Educator shall be responsible for planning, coordinating, administering and assessing both high and low fidelity simulation for students in the Health Science Division of South Arkansas Community College. This person will assist with maintaining and operating both the simulation and skills lab, providing students with appropriate clinical and simulation experiences and providing guidance to students toward safe nursing care. Occasional weekend and evening work hours will be required. This is a full-time position with occasional weekend and evening work hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Clinical/Simulation Educator is responsible for supervising nursing students in the laboratory and the clinical setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Clinical Simulation Educator will be responsible for:

Assisting with the clinical education of student groups when needed.                                                    

Coordinate scheduling of skills and simulation laboratory with faculty.                                                

Preparation for and assistance with skills demonstration. 

Preparation for and execution of realistic simulation scenarios for health science students.            

Education and training of faculty and staff in the use of simulation laboratory equipment.        

Maintaining all OSHA standards through implementation, labeling, policies and practices.                  

Keep faculty and students aware of OSHA rules and regulations.                                                         

Procure, install, configure, operate, maintain, and repair (if possible) medical equipment and simulators, computers, and audiovisual equipment for the simulation lab; develop and implement a maintenance plan for the simulators and equipment to include troubleshooting, and standard maintenance.                

Maintain the skills and simulation lab including ordering and stocking supplies.                                

Provide individual instruction as needed when appropriate.                                                                

Attend all faculty, divisional and in-service meetings unless excused by the division dean.                

Assist with student recruitment, advisement and promote student retention.                            

Communicate efficiently and effectively with South Arkansas Community College faculty and staff.    

Complete other duties as assigned.                                                                                                    

Maintain student records and progress of students working in laboratories.                                                  

Post and maintain office hours.                                                             

Participate in graduation ceremonies unless excused by the division dean.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The Clinical/Simulation Educator will possess:  

Sound familiarity of current nursing concepts, principles, practices, and skills.                              

Adequate computer skills to be able to operate the simulators and grade clinical assignments.                                                

 

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing                                                                                                 

Valid, unencumbered Arkansas Registered Nursing license.                                                                         

Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

5 or more years’ experience in an acute care setting.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: physical mobility sufficient for direct supervision of students in lab and clinical settings; have visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment; auditory ability sufficient for monitoring and assessing health needs; and fine and gross motor skills sufficient for providing safe and competent nursing care. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed. Some lifting will be expected and he/she must be able to perform expected duties of a nursing educator in various clinical settings.

Travel Requirements:

Local travel is expected for clinical supervision duties. Rare regional travel may be necessary for clinical supervision duties. Other travel may be required for simulation training.
