Position: Director, Administrative Computer Services

 

Job Summary:

The Director works within a collaborative IT organization implementing, administering, and supporting virtual and physical servers and their associated systems and services, for both on-premises and cloud environments. The position contributes to area strategy and continuous improvement via research, performance analysis, automation, and process refinement.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Receives work orders and determines priority of services, repairs, installation, and/or construction by prioritizing requested assignments and establishing deadlines.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design, install and configure internal and public facing servers. Proactively manage and maintain server, applications and host systems.  Administer and support core Microsoft, VMware, and other adopted technologies. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.· Maintain a log of required repairs and maintenance schedule. Define and document best practices and support procedures. Provide after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well as occasional weekend maintenance. Maintain inventory and assess configuration documentation. Assist with hardware, firewall, telecom, and software vendor evaluation, recommendation, and negotiations. Mentor / Cross train team members on existing and new technologies. Interact with students and staff at the technical level, as required. Participates on departmental and College committees/task forces as assigned.

 

Skills and Abilities:

Technical skills required to manage the College’s Active Directory network and supporting systems. Ability to solve problems in stressful situations. Strong attention to detail.  Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to inexperienced users. Time management skills.

 

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in related degree and/or four to ten years related experience. At least two years of experience managing Active Directory. Advanced knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and Windows Authentication. Experience with VMWare administration.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

Six years of experience managing Active Directory and with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager. Advanced knowledge of VMWare administration. Experience with network switches and VLAN configuration. Vendor certifications highly preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must possess mobility to work in and around Collage buildings and facilities; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Employees in this position typically work in an office setting but may be required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect network sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
