Director of Adult Education

South Arkansas Community College seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, multi-tasking candidate to fill the position of Director of Adult Education. The position reports directly to the Career Accelerator Executive Director.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Serve as lead administrator for South Arkansas Community College’s Adult Education department including two service areas (Union County and Bradley County).
  • Provide allowable services as outlined in state and federal budgets.
  • Supervise the following academic programs: ABE/ASE instruction, WAGETM, English as a second language (ESL), corrections and reentry education, integrated education and training programs (IETs),
  • Supervise the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training (SNAP E&T), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and other programs and special projects.

Employee Supervision:

  • Supervise adult education employees including administrative staff, full-time faculty, part-time faculty, etc.
  • Train new employees for the assigned roles.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and communicate departmental policies and procedures for all faculty and staff.
  • Complete annual employee evaluations.
  • Ensure the completion of professional development requirements for all faculty and staff.
  • Approve leave requests and verify timecard submissions.

Budgets and Grant Management:

  • Write, submit, monitor, and amend as needed all adult education budgets.
  • Coordinate with LEA and state office for grant approvals and signatures.
  • Monitor budget spending for salaries, fringe/matching, operational costs, supplies, instructional text/supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Submit P-Card reports prior to business office deadlines.
  • Complete the purchase order process for appropriate expenditures.

Reporting:

  • Submit monthly expenditure reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure expenditure reports correspond to budget paperwork.
  • Submit quarterly metrics and financial reports prior to the deadline.
  • Maintain and submit an annual inventory report.

Student Progress:

  • Oversee access and delivery of quality services from adult education including instruction, multi-level programs, testing, distance learning, accommodations, customer service, and more.
  • Inspect student records, instructional hours, and academic progress to ensure state requirements are met.
  • Direct, arrange, and promote student retention and recruitment activities.
  • Complete weekly data reviews to confirm the accuracy of data entry.

Program Reviews and Site Visits:

  • Prepare for and undergo five-year programmatic reviews and annual site visits.
  • Complete other reviews as requested for special project grants.

Committee Participation:

  • Serve as a member of committees at South Arkansas Community College as assigned.
  • Coordinate a local adult education advisory committee that meets quarterly.

Other duties as assigned or as needed for center operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in distance education and online learning (Canvas LMS preferred)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and creation of PDF forms
  • Experience with grant writing and management

This is a full-time, 12-month position. Schedule includes some early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Travel required to attend mandatory training sessions in Little Rock.

Required Qualifications:

  • Conferred master’s degree in education, administration, or a related field
  • Must hold a current Arkansas educator’s license (If not licensed, the candidate must hold a license from another state to gain reciprocity within six months.)
  • Two years of experience in adult education
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Five years of experience as a teacher and/or an administrator in the field of education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Arkansas adult education educator’s license (If not licensed, the candidate will have three years to achieve this showing academic progress annually)
  • Five years of experience in adult education
  • Five years of supervisory experience
