JOB PURPOSE:

This Instructor/Coordinator is responsible for the instruction and management of clinical/practicum experiences and assigned classes.  This position will also maintain professionalism within their specialized field, including currency and required certifications.  Other major responsibilities include participating in department and college-wide committees and assignments.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Coordinates and schedules all EMT-Basic, Advanced-EMT, and Paramedic clinical and field internships.
  • Teaches students effectively in assigned courses and maintains required office hours.
  • Maintains and submits in a timely manner accurate student records of attendance and academic achievement.

·         Coordinates, revises, and maintains contractual affiliation agreements with clinical/practicum facilities as needed.

  • Evaluates students’ competency and safety levels for participation in clinical components and evaluates clinical sites depending on program need.
  • Collaborates with clinical sites regarding orientation of field preceptors to EMS learning outcomes.
  • Participates in development and support of their assigned discipline/program by recommending textbooks and materials, and revising curricula.
  • Utilizes technology to facilitate learning, access data, maintain records, generate reports as required by the state, the college, and accreditation regulations.
  • Communicates with students and others appropriately, effectively, timely, and professionally.
  • Assists EMS program director in coordination, scheduling, and implementation of skills labs.
  • Ensures program compliance with Arkansas Department of Health, Section of EMS & Trauma Systems Rules & Regulations, and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification in National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician testing.
  • Assists Program Director with continued compliance with all Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) Regulations.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods to address needs of diverse students and learning styles in order to achieve course and program outcomes.

·         Develops master and course syllabi per college guidelines and templates and revise as needed.

  • Performs assessment of courses and develops analysis reports.

·         Participates in recruitment and marketing activities to promote the program.

  • Assists and works with EMS and SouthArk faculty as needed or directed.
  • Performs all other tasks as requested by the Program Director and/or assigned by the division dean.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Current certification as an EMT/Paramedic (and/or verification of completion of a paramedic program), or hold a professional health care credential.
  • Must have current certification as an Arkansas EMS Paramedic Instructor.
  • Must have current instructor certification in ACLS, PALS, ITLS, Pediatric ITLS, and BLS.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge in course content and effectiveness in teaching assigned subjects.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Five years of experience in emergency medical services.
  • Experience in teaching EMS or related courses.
  • Experience in a leadership role in a professional organization.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Work Environment:

Must be flexible working with program demands and schedule may involve day, evening, or weekend teaching, labs, or clinical times and may be at offsite locations.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; use hands to finger/touch, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee must be able to move around and about their area, perform routine EMS skills, and operate a computer as needed.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Travel Requirements:

Local and regional travel within service area to coordinate with clinical sites regarding orientation of field preceptors to EMS learning outcomes.

A criminal background check will be conducted if not documented as part of existing EMS affiliation/employment.

  • Performs professional activities and assumes professional responsibilities as agreed upon with the discipline/program division dean.
  • Consults with discipline/program division dean and faculty/staff colleagues to achieve shared goals and visions.
  • Actively participates in annual evaluation processes related to job performance as directed by the South Arkansas Community College Plan for Faculty evaluation and incorporate associated strategies to address continuous improvement for development and learning.
  • Meets professional assignments in accordance with the institution’s calendar and signed Agreement for Services obligations.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the college mission and shared goals and values through active participation in planning activities.
  • Serves on, attends, and actively participates in the activities of college committees as assigned.
  • Participates in campus commencement exercises and attends other professionally mandated institutional meetings and activities as directed.
  • Complies with South Arkansas Community College’s Governing Board policies and Administrative Procedures Manual (APM) as well as state and federal policies, including FERPA.
