Nursing Clinical Instructors 

To qualify for the Clinical Instructor position, the applicant must hold a minimum of an Associate’s degree in the nursing field; hold a current, unencumbered registered nursing (RN) license; and have at least one year of clinical nursing experience. 

The Nursing Clinical Instructor

  • is under the direct supervision of the Program Chair at the member college where they are employed.
  • paid by the ARNEC member college where they are employed, per the pay scale of that college.
  • responsible for instruction in their nursing learning lab and clinical facilities,
  • responsible for evaluation of student learning,
  • responsible for grading of clinical assignments,
  • expected to maintain competency in their area(s) of clinical instruction.
  • responsible for familiarizing themselves with ARNEC policies, implementing and upholding them. 

Job duties for the Clinical Instructors are as follows, but not limited to: 

  • Supervise students in the clinical and/or laboratory setting. 
  • Maintain attendance and records as necessary. 
  • Document performance of nursing skills and interventions. 
  • Assist in the evaluation process of student performance. 
  • Attend faculty meetings as determined by the ARNEC Director and/or Program Chair. 
  • Attend advisory committee meetings as scheduled by the ARNEC institution where the faculty is a member. 
  • Maintain working knowledge in the teaching and nursing field by attendance in workshops. 
  • Participate in the evaluation process of the nursing program. 
  • Adhere to the individual ARNEC member institutional policies where the clinical faculty member is employed. 
  • Ensure students are receiving and providing appropriate patient report per the facility policy
  • Facilitate effective student learning in the assigned clinical setting.
  • Provide adequate guidance for students in the clinical setting related to professionalism, nursing practice, and research.
  • Selects and organizes learning activities which facilitate the student’s attainment of the course objectives.
  • Ensure effective evaluations of student practice.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment.
  • Provide feedback on student progress to Clinical Coordinator/Program Chair.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and administration as requested.
  • Collaborate effectively with the healthcare partner and its staff.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the nursing curriculum, policies, and requirements.
  • Maintain clinical competence and knowledge in area of expertise. Other duties as assigned by the ARNEC Director and /or Program Chair. 
  • Notify the Clinical Coordinator within two hours of shift start when sick.  Clinical coordinator will attempt to make other arrangements and notify students.
  • Attend all required orientation and training.

Currently, each clinical instructor has no more than a 1 to 8 student ratio in the critical care area and a 1 to 10 student ratio in the community service area.
