South Arkansas Community College Re-Opening Guidance

The safety of our students, employees and the community around us are of paramount importance to the leadership of South Arkansas Community College. The following plan is designed to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission on our campuses. It is subject to change.

I. PHASE TIMELINES

Timelines are tentative and will be dependent on information and guidance from national, state, and local health and governmental authorities.

  1. Phase 1 – start June 1
  2. Phase 2A – start August 3 
  3. Phase 2B – start August 10 
  4. Phase 3 – start TBD
Phase 2A - August 3, 2020

III. PHASE 2A - August 3, 2020

  1. Communication will continue via the college website, social media and email to students, employees and the public

B. Individual precautions

  1. Wash hands frequently.
  2. Use hand sanitizer throughout the day.
  3. All students, employees, and others with appointments on campus will wear face coverings inside all campus facilities and will comply with social-distancing requirements established by the state of Arkansas elsewhere on campus. Every person in Arkansas will wear a face covering over the mouth and nose in accordance with the below guidelines.
    1. In all indoor environments where they are exposed to non-household members and distancing of six feet or more cannot be assured.
    2. In all outdoor settings where there is exposure to non-household members, unless there exists ample space of six feet or more to practice physical distancing.
    3. Face shields are not considered face coverings, but can be used with a face covering to provide more individual protection.

C. Employee work schedules

  1. All employees will return to work on campus.
  2. There may be times where employees may work remotely from home. The first cabinet member in the chain of command must approve any remote work and the Human Resources Department must be notified.

D. Coronavirus testing - employees

  1. Any employee testing positive will notify his or her supervisor immediately. The supervisor will notify Human Resources as soon as possible. The employee will quarantine and will not come back to work until the following CDC guidelines are met: 1) It has been at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared AND 2) at least 24 hours have passed with no fever without fever-reducing medication AND 3) symptoms have improved OR 4) Depending on your healthcare provider’s advice and availability of testing, you might get tested to see if you still have COVID-19. If you are tested, you can be around others when you have no fever, respiratory symptoms have improved, and you receive two negative test results in a row, at least 24 hours apart.
  2. Any employee in contact with a positively-tested individual will be asked to see his or her doctor and be tested.
    1. The employee will quarantine for 14 days from the day of contact. If the employee has a positive test, the employee will follow the guidance in III.D.1.
    2. If an employee is in contact with an individual outside the campus who tests positive for the virus, he or she will need to contact his or her supervisor immediately, then follow the guidance in paragraph III.D.2.

E. Office guidelines and work re-integration

  1. Employees must remain at home if they have a fever or are not feeling well for any reason and will be sent home if they are not feeling well while at work. If an employee stays at home, they must notify their supervisor.
  2. Internal doors will be left open whenever possible to minimize contact.
  3. Hand sanitizer will be placed in every building and employees are welcome to bring their own as well.
  4. Web conferencing will be encouraged, especially where social distancing is not possible.

F.  Students on campus

  1. Students’ coming to campus to use the computer lab, see III.K.
  2. Other students may be on campus only if approved by the president using procedures established by the college vice presidents for student services and/ or academic affairs.
  3. Students must complete a questionnaire before being admitted to a campus facility. If a student has a negative response to any question, he or she will not be allowed on campus.
  4. The college vice presidents will coordinate schedules for students on campus.

G. Tours for prospective students

  1. Tours must be pre-arranged through the student recruitment office.
  2. No one who has experienced fever, shortness of breath, or any other COVID-19 related symptoms is allowed to tour. Admission to the campus requires following the steps in III.F.3.
  3. Touring parties are limited to three members, each of whom must wear protective face coverings over both nose and mouth throughout each tour.
  4. The tour guide also will wear a face covering over nose and mouth throughout each tour.
  5. The wearing of gloves is discouraged.

H. Student advising

  1. Phone and virtual appointments are highly encouraged and are to be considered the primary method of contact with the advising office.
  2. Students will have the option of in-person appointments and will have to follow III.F.3. to gain access to the campus. Only the student and one companion will be allowed for the appointment. If a companion plans to attend the session with the student, he or she also must adhere to protocols in III.F.3.
  3. Walk-in visits are not allowed.
  4. Students will be contacted via email, fax, or phone to assist completing their registrations.

I. Testing Center

  1. Only essential testing will be allowed.
  2. Those using the testing center must make an appointment and follow the steps in III.F.3. to be admitted to the facility.
  3. Walk-in visits are not allowed.
  4. Remote testing is available for limited tests and will be highly encouraged.
  5. There will be no personal contact between the proctor and the tester.
  6. Hands of both the proctor and the tester will be sanitized prior to beginning the check in process.
  7. The Testing Center is limited to seven testers at a time to meet social distancing standards.
  8. Upon completion, the proctor will sanitize the workstation used by the tester. J. Tutoring
  9. Phone, email, and virtual tutoring will be the primary methods of tutoring.
  10. If tutoring via means in III.J.1 cannot be accomplished, in-person tutoring can be accomplished by appointment only.
  11. Masks covering both the nose and mouth will be used by the tutor and student during an in-person session.
  12. Upon completion of a tutoring session, the computer, work area, and items will be sanitized by the tutor and/or student.
  13. K. Computer labs will remain closed during Phase IIA

L.  Facilities

  1. All facility entrances will remain locked during Phase 2A.
  2. Employees without keys to entrance will need to contact campus security at 870.866.9208 for entrance.
  3. Every building will have hand sanitizer at the main entrance and everyone entering a building is encouraged to use it.
  4. Meetings may occur in rooms when social distancing guidelines can be observed.
  5. The number of individuals in one room will not exceed guidance received from the Arkansas State Health Department.
  6. If a student, prospective student, or visitor has an approved appointment on campus, the individual meeting with the student, prospective student, or visitor will make arrangements for that individual to enter the building at the appointed time.
