Mahony Family Library Receives 2024 AARP Community Challenge Grant!
We are excited to announce that the Mahony Family Library has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 AARP Community Challenge Grant. This prestigious grant enables us to launch a series of "SouthArk Connections" classes designed to empower individuals aged 50 and above with essential computer skills.
About the SouthArk Connection Series
Objective: To provide seniors with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently navigate the digital world.
Class Schedule:
Introduction to Computers (August 28th)
Learn the basics of computer hardware, turning on and shutting down, and essential skills like using the mouse and keyboard. Includes an introduction to ADA tools and accessibility features.
Navigating the Operating System (September 11th)
Discover how to efficiently use the desktop, manage files, and adjust basic settings. Hands-on practice with accessibility settings and tools
Introduction to the Internet (September 25th)
Explore how to use web browsers, perform searches, and navigate websites safely, with demonstrations of accessibility features.
Introduction to Online Financial Tools (October 9th)
Learn to navigate online banking, pay bills, and shop safely online. Includes resources for veterans.
Technology Accessibility Training (ADA) (October 23rd)
A specialized session focused on using ADA tools and accessibility features on digital devices. Hands-on practice and interactive demonstrations to empower individuals with disabilities.
Veterans-Centered Outreach and Curriculum (November 6th)
Focused on helping veterans and their families access online benefits, find jobs, and further their education. Includes a presentation by a financial aid expert on educational opportunities for veterans.
How to Participate
Time & Location: All sessions will be held in the new classroom space inside the Mahony Family Library at 300 Summit Ave., El Dorado, AR. Each session will last from 12 pm- 1 pm.
