Immunization Requirements

In accordance with Arkansas State Law Act 141 of 1987, and revised Arkansas Department of Health Immunization Rules and Regulations revised 2014, students are REQUIRED to provide legal proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), to the Health and Wellness Center.

To prove immunity, students must provide documentation of TWO (2) MMRs from an official immunization record from another educational institution in Arkansas, a licensed medical doctor, an authorized public health representative, or a military record.  All records must include your name and date of birth.

For detailed information about immunization regulations, please refer to the Arkansas Department of Health. Exceptions include those students who were born prior to January 1, 1957, and those who have applied for or received a medical or non-medical exemption (medical, religious, or philosophical exemption) from the Arkansas Department of Health. Exemptions from the Arkansas Department of Health must be completed annually. Documentation verifying approval or an application in process should be sent from the Arkansas Department of Health.

3 Options for Meeting New Student Immunization Requirements

  • First option: 2 doses of MMR vaccine
Obtain copies of your immunization records (see acceptable sources below) and submit. Students should retain original documents. Copies of immunization records will be destroyed after entry into the university database. Acceptable records of your immunizations may be obtained from any of the following: Copies of your personal immunization records; must include your name and date of birth. Copies of physician office records. Copies of Health Department immunization records. Copies of military records. Copies of high school or previous college immunization records. (Note: These documents must contain your name, date of birth, and source of record).
  • Second Option: Exemption
Medical/Philosophical/Religious Exemptions: Only the Arkansas Department of Health can provide these exemptions. The Department of Health can be contacted by calling (501) 661-2169. Exemptions from the Arkansas Department of Health must be completed annually.
  • Third Option: Titer (Blood Test) Results
Blood test results proving immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella is acceptable. Only the Arkansas Department of Health can approve titer tests in lieu of receiving the vaccine required. The Department of Health can be contacted by calling (501) 661-2169.
