JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Success, the Director of Student Experience, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, is responsible for developing and leading student engagement initiatives designed to foster student success, retention, and completion.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

Establish a comprehensive First Year Experience program to include summer-bridge, freshmen student success courses, new student orientation, mentoring, and other related initiatives

Oversee student activities, including student clubs and organizations

Implementation of the Achieving the Dream holistic student supports initiative

Supervision and management of the Arkansas College and Career Coach grant program

Supervision and management of the Jobs for Arkansas Graduates (JAG) grant program

Budget management

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

Master’s degree required; Strong organizational, communications, leadership, teamwork/collaboration, and computer skills required.

 

Required Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in student personnel services, education, business, or a closely related area and at least three years of closely related experience in a community college or university setting; Three years’ full-time experience in college student services required; knowledge and experience with Arkansas College and Career Coach and JAG grant programs; knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems (ERPs such as Jenzabar) and Microsoft Office applications; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and the public; demonstrated commitment to an integrated management and systems, thereby utilizing the ability to work collaboratively; Strong oral and written communication skills; grant and budget management; Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to lead and manage change in a positive and inclusive manner.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s degree and three years’ experience in a community college or university setting within the following areas:  academic advising, student activities, early college, Arkansas College and Career Coach grant program, JAG program, and other student support service areas with evidence of increasing levels of responsibility; Management experience with grants; Knowledge and skill in the use of Jenzabar; Knowledge and skill in the use of reporting tools; Experience with state and federal reporting requirements.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Departmental staff to include college and career coaches, JAG career coach, student activities coordinator, student success course instructors, along with other support staff.

 

Work Environment:

The position is primarily sedentary within an office environment. The position may require occasional outdoor or group gatherings.

 

Physical Demands:

The individual may kneel, squat, reach at or above shoulder level. The individual should have the ability to lift less than 50 pounds.

 

Travel Requirements:

The individual will have some travel required for training, work related meetings, and conferences.
